Fast growing trees!!
« on: February 28, 2018, 07:33:51 AM »
Welllll......I found that on occasion the trees on the North boundary can spontaneously spring up about 20 feet in a matter of seconds. Or, maybe my depth perception wasn't as good in the evening light. Either way, I tried to chop one down with my Extra 300S on Monday. It was my first crash ever, and I seriously doubt my last. However, now that it has happened, my confidence has waivered now on my abilities to bring a bigger bird that needs to land a little hot. So, I will need to work on that!

Jim

So, after stripping the covering off the wing, I can find no damage other than on both left and right sides, the balsa sheeting has a 2" puncture crack and the mounting surface at the trailing edge where the nylon wing bolts were ripped out has some damage.

The fuse is intact, from the gear rearward. So, I think that I may purchase another kit (to get the cowl and cockpit hatch that I am sure Great Planes would charge my nearly $60) and then have all the laser cut pieces/parts to rebuild the cockpit forward... Then I get to learn to cover a plane...
